You don't need the time or place of birth, and you don't need to sign up. Below you'll find how the calculation works, a complete example with two real dates, what to look at first and what the Matrix cannot tell you.

How it is calculated, point by point

Everyone has their own Destiny Matrix, calculated from their date of birth. A is the day, B the month, C the sum of the digits of the year, D the sum of A, B and C, and E, the center, the sum of A, B, C and D. Every sum above 22 is reduced by adding its digits, because there are 22 energies, one for each Major Arcanum.

The Couple Matrix takes the same point from the two people, adds the two numbers and reduces the result. It is not recalculated from a combined date, and no average is taken.

Let's see it with the site's two example dates, 06/15/1990 and 09/27/1986.

The center of the couple comes from the two personal centers, 8 and 3. It is not recalculated by adding the couple points already found, because the result would change. If you want to redo the sums by hand, the page on calculating by hand has all the formulas of the personal Matrix.

The five zones of compatibility

The couple result is divided into five zones, each with a question. Here is which points each one reads and what it is worth in the example.

The meaning of each zone is explained on the Couple Matrix page. Here what matters is the order in which to read them.

What to look at first

1. The center of the couple. This is the zone of tasks: a single energy, the main task of the relationship. In the example it is 11, Strength. The site describes this energy with courage, patience and inner control. Read it as the thing that asks the most work of you and that, when it works, keeps the rest in balance.

2. The meeting. A and B tell what drew you together, with the bright sides and the ones to keep an eye on. This is the zone the free result shows in full. In the example the meeting is 6, the Lovers, with 15, the Devil.

3. The shape of the Knot. Below the five zones is the preview of the Knot, which compares the two Karmic Tails. In the example the site speaks of a "free knot": the two Matrices share no identical points, and "you're not very alike and you complete each other." The other possible shapes are the knot of care, of the mirror and of the return: these are the ways a karmic bond is read in the Matrix.

Then, at your own pace, the other three zones. These are the ones where everyday life shows up most.

• The nature of the bond. In the example it is 18, the Moon, with 7, the Chariot, and synthesis 7. On the Arcana page the Moon speaks of the unconscious, dreams and illusions, the Chariot of determination and progress. A question to ask yourselves: how much of what you feel for each other have you actually said aloud, and where are you going together?
• The problems. It reads the four corners of the couple, which in the example are 6, 15, 7 and 10. The 15, the Devil, also appears in the meeting. On the Arcana page it speaks of dependencies, temptations and shadows: it is worth asking whether what attracted you is also what you clash over.
• The couple's money. R2 and N of the couple, 12 and 4 in the example. We discuss it in the practical example below.

The same person, three different couples

Compatibility in the Matrix is not a property of one person: it changes with who stands beside them. Let's keep the date 06/15/1990 fixed and change the second one.

None of the three is "more compatible" than the others. Each has a different task at the center and a different way of having found each other. With 05/18/1988 the personal center is the same, 8, and the same center gives a mirror knot. With 10/12/1987 each person's center appears in the other's Karmic Tail, and the site speaks of a bond "in which you feel healed, sometimes saved."

Couple Matrix, zodiac and numerology

Searching for compatibility online, you mostly find zodiac sites. The zodiac compares two sun signs, so every couple with the same two signs gets the same answer. Couple numerology compares two numbers from 1 to 9, plus 11, 22 and 33. The Couple Matrix uses the complete dates and returns five zones, each with one or more of the 22 energies. In exchange, it does not give a score.

A practical example

Imagine a couple who always argue about the same topic, for example who decides how money is spent. Asking "are we compatible?" doesn't get you far. With the two dates you can look at the couple's money.

In the example the money is 12 and 4, the Hanged Man and the Emperor. On the Arcana page the 12 speaks of sacrifice and surrender, the 4 of authority and order. A concrete question to ask yourselves together is this: which of us gives something up, and which of us keeps the accounts?

From here you can decide something practical, for example who takes care of which account. The number doesn't settle the quarrel, but it gives you common ground to start from.

What the Matrix does not say

The Couple Matrix is a symbolic language, not a scientific test. It does not measure love, it does not say how long a relationship will last and it does not say whether the other person is the right one. It works best as a starting point for a conversation: "do you recognize yourself in this description?" opens more doors than "the Matrix says so."
