How to Read the Destiny Matrix: A 7-Step Guide (With an Example)
The Destiny Matrix is read zone by zone: start at the center, then the Portrait, relationships, money, the Karmic Tail and your years. 7 steps, with a worked example.
October 18, 20268 minutes read

The Destiny Matrix is read zone by zone: start with the number at the center, then look at the Portrait, relationships and money, the Karmic Tail, and finally the years of the Forecast.
If you don't have your map yet, calculate it free from your date of birth. All you need is the day, month and year, with no time, no place and no sign-up. Keep it open as you read, because every step below asks you to look at one specific point.

What you see when you open the Matrix
The Matrix is an octagram: two overlapping squares, one upright and one rotated, with more than thirty points. Every point has a letter and a number from 1 to 22. Each number is one of the 22 energies, which carry the names of the Major Arcana: 1 is the Magician, 8 is Justice, 22 is the Fool.
A number on its own says little. The same arcanum tells one story in the Portrait, another at the center and another still in the Karmic Tail. That is why the Matrix is read by zones, meaning groups of points that answer one question. On the site there are twelve zones, gathered into four questions: who you are, where you come from, how you live, where you are going.
In this guide we always use the same example date, June 15, 1990, the same one as on the page about calculating by hand. That way you can check every number.
Step 1. Calculate the map and keep it in front of you
With the calculator the Matrix opens at once, with the numbers in place. If you prefer paper, print the blank Matrix and follow the formulas. There is just one rule. If a sum goes above 22, you add its digits: 40 becomes 4, 27 becomes 9, and 22 stays 22.
For 06/15/1990 the first five points are these:
- A, the day: 15
- B, the month: 6
- C, the year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19
- D, which is A + B + C: 15 + 6 + 19 = 40, which becomes 4
- E, which is A + B + C + D: 15 + 6 + 19 + 4 = 44, which becomes 8
Step 2. Start at the center
Point E, at the center, is the Core. It is the sum of the four corners of the diamond, and the site describes it as your point of harmony and comfort. It makes sense to begin here because it is the only point that contains the whole date.
In the example the center is 8, Justice. The page on the Arcana describes it as an energy of balance, truth and responsibility. A useful question to start with is this: when do I feel truly at peace, and what was I doing?
The center is a destination more than a starting point. The site explains that you only live it fully after working on the Soul Tasks and on the tasks of your ancestors. If you don't recognize yourself in your central number today, that is normal.
Step 3. Read the Portrait
The Portrait Zone uses two points: A, the day of birth, and B, the month. It describes how others see you and the character you present to the world, and it covers the years from 0 to 20. A is the portrait at age 0, the energies you arrive in the world with. B is the portrait at age 20.
In the example A is 15, the Devil, and B is 6, the Lovers. In the free result the 15 appears as "character," with its positive and negative sides explained at length.
Next to the Portrait is the Talents zone, with points K, F2 and G2: your own talent and those that come from the paternal and maternal lines. In the example they are 14, 10 and 14.
Step 4. Look at relationships and money
Here you read two zones that share one point.
- The Relationships Zone reads M, R1 and R: your readiness for a relationship, its nature and its possible problems.
- The Money Zone reads L, R2 and R: the money channel, the suitable profession and the flow.
Point R appears in both, and the site calls it "problems in relationships and flow of money." In the example the Relationships are 12, 6 and 21, and Money is 9, 3 and 21. The same 21, the World, closes both rows.
That is why it helps to read the two zones one after the other. If you notice that arguments at home often end up being about money, point R is the first place to look.
Step 5. Read the Karmic Tail
Below the center, toward the bottom, there are three energies in a row: M, N and D. This is the Karmic Tail, the zone the site links to the program carried over from past lives. It shows what tends to repeat and which lesson there is to learn. There are 26 possible combinations, and each one has a name.
It is read in order:
- M, which is D + E, shows how you open the door to others and what you bring into relationships;
- N, which is M + D, is the heart of the program, what tends to repeat;
- D, which is A + B + C, is the point of age 60, the lesson to make your own.
In the example the tail is 12-16-4, which the site calls "The Emperor" and links to the relationship with the father and with authority. In the site's count across all dates from 1900 to 2030 it appears in 6.7% of cases.
Step 6. The Soul Tasks at 40 and at 60
The Soul Tasks are two corners of the diamond. C, on the right, concerns age 40. D, at the bottom, concerns age 60, and the site also calls it the zone of the present incarnation. In the example C is 19, the Sun, and D is 4, the Emperor.
D is the same point that closes the Karmic Tail. The position is one and the same, and you read it with two questions: what lesson does the tail ask for, and what does maturity ask you to build?
Step 7. Read the Forecast by age
The last step connects the outer points to years. Each corner of the octagram corresponds to an age: A at 0, F at 10, B at 20, G at 30, C at 40, H at 50, D at 60, I at 70. The Life Forecast divides the path from 0 to 79 years into 64 periods, with 7 shorter periods between one corner and the next.
Someone born on June 15, 1990 is 36 in October 2026. They are between G, which at 30 is worth 7, the Chariot, and C, which at 40 is worth 19, the Sun. Use the Forecast as a calendar of themes: it suggests where to put your attention in a given period, not what will happen.
Zone, question and where to look
| Zone | The question | Points | Example 06/15/1990 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | Where do I find balance? | E | 8, Justice |
| Portrait Zone | How do others see me? | A, B | 15, the Devil; 6, the Lovers |
| Talents | What gifts do I carry with me? | K, F2, G2 | 14, 10, 14 |
| Relationships | How do I live my relationships? | M, R1, R | 12, 6, 21 |
| Money and Work | How do I handle money and work? | L, R2, R | 9, 3, 21 |
| Karmic Tail | What tends to repeat? | M, N, D | 12-16-4 |
| Soul Tasks | What should I build at 40 and 60? | C, D | 19, 4 |
| Life Forecast | What should I focus on now? | A, F, B, G, C, H, D, I | at 30: 7, at 40: 19 |
If you want to explore each zone at your own pace, there is a book that explains them all, one by one, with the positive and negative side of every arcanum and the hand calculation formula by formula.
The most common mistakes
- Reading a number on its own, without the question of the zone.
- Swapping day and month: it changes the whole map.
- Using a sum above 22 without reducing it, if you calculate by hand.
- Taking the Forecast as a certain prediction.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Where do you start when reading the Destiny Matrix?
At the center. Point E, the Core, is the sum of the four corners of the diamond and shows where you find balance. Then move on to the Portrait Zone (A and B), relationships and money, the Karmic Tail, the Soul Tasks and the Life Forecast by age.
What does the number at the center of the Matrix mean?
It is the Core, E = A + B + C + D reduced to a number from 1 to 22. It marks your point of harmony and comfort. Its meaning depends on the arcana: for June 15, 1990 the center is 8, Justice, which speaks of balance, truth and responsibility.
Do you need an expert to read the Destiny Matrix?
Not for the first steps: the free calculator opens the map, and some zones are written out in full in the result. If you want every zone written for your date, the personal reading is a PDF that reaches you by email within 48 hours.
Do you need your time of birth?
No. The Matrix uses only the day, month and year of birth. Time and place of birth play no part in the calculation.
Why does the same number appear in several places in my Matrix?
Because every point is a sum of other points, and there are only 22 possible results. A repeated number is read once for each position, with the question of the zone where it falls.
Can I calculate and read the Matrix by hand?
Yes. The page on calculating by hand shows every formula with the June 15, 1990 example, and the printable blank Matrix already has the letters in place. There is just one rule: any sum above 22 is reduced by adding its digits.
